I was a church going person when I was in high school and I often attend the 1st mass. Usually in our provincial town, the 1st mass starts at 5:00 am when the land is still dark with a fresh cool breeze in the air. I am both a member of the Knights of the Altar and Church Youth Choir, maybe because I went to a catholic school. I’ve always been God fearing ever since I was a child up until now. I also believe in the Golden Rule (do not do unto others what you don’t want others to do unto you) and the ever-popular Law of Karma. They are pretty much the same though; you shall reap what you sow.
Now I only go inside a church when there’s no mass going on. I say my thanks to God, ask for good health, and a safe passage through this lifetime but often for my loved ones. More often than that, I just say my thanks anywhere whenever I receive a blessing or I get to my destination safely. At the end of the day when I get to be with my family, I feel that that is the way on how the Lord says; “you’re welcome.”
As you come to age, things get clearer and what ideals you have then are either lost or strengthened. I realized that a church is just a building, a hollowed place where people worship together but for me, it is not as a holy a place that I thought it was.
I’ve come to believe on my own that one’s holy place is found within him. It is a tiny place in your heart where you can find peace. It is a moment of happiness, a time with the ones you want to be with. Holy is a feeling of warmth when you are in the comforting arms of your family or when you are holding your dear ones in your arms. Holy is a brief moment when you wished to stop time just to preserve a feeling you had.
Who needs religion when you become aware that what gives you hope are those people you care about and not a senseless belief to a god that could give you material riches? Well I don’t because to me it no longer makes sense. My logic on this matter could not be change by any reason because I know deep within my heart that the moments I have preserved there is my holy place.
